How to organise sea service on a maritime CV

Keep one entry for each contract

Record rank, employer, vessel name, vessel type and joining/leaving dates. Present the most recent service first and use a consistent date format.

Label vessel specifications accurately

If relevant, include verified gross tonnage, deadweight or engine power in separate labelled fields. These are different measurements. Do not substitute one for another or ask AI to guess missing specifications.

Separate duties from certificates

Summarise your own responsibilities below the service record. Keep certificates and endorsements in a separate section with the correct names and expiry dates.

Reconcile dates before exporting

Compare the CV against your service records. Check overlaps, rank changes and current-contract dates. If a date is uncertain, verify it before submitting the application.
